its been a long wait but finally 501 returns with yet another bigtime 12inch that will roll out punches even more than mike tyson! fresh off his release from never say die sees 501 twisting it differently this time.. >gist< is a vocal infused stomper that opens the 12inch perfectly and sees 501 leaning into a swagger tip. it flows, it rocks, it jumps its everything in 1. it shows a different side to the standard 501 sound and shows he can bend any way he would like to. you can hear that in the b side >borderline< where he exchanges the sweet vocals of gist for a psychotic quote and the swagger lean for some ear shattering kicks & snares. hear borderline destroy your eardrums like the good old days with some sub! nothing beats the old fashioned heavyweight sound! another essential 501 record!

almost a year overdue, but finally the new release from the dutch techno label aftertaste recordings is unleashed! continuing the strategy of compiling dark and pounding techno tracks from some of their favourite artsists means that each release is focussed, yet there is enough character to the individual tracks for it not to get too samey.

raoul records is very happy to welcome liviu groza for the fourth release of the label. after his china charm ep on cityfox just before this summer, he is back with 3 tracks that fit perfectly with the sound of the label. it certainly has something to do with house and techno, but livius personal touch is quickly modifying our expectations, for the pleasure of our ears. there is an authentic energy in livius work and the a-side track >no love< is a perfect example of that. what starts with a typical filtered techno loop is suddenly brought to another level with a huge melodic bass line and then with two chords that enlight the track with a certain melancholy. the b-side starts with another killer bass line. >the manimals< bass line is a snake that enrolls its body around every other element: a great house groove and an hypnotic piano. liviu is a snake charmer! the 3rd track >mean fine< seems to be the perfect b2 track. what sounds rather quiet and reduced when you first listen to it, turns itself into an efficient old school dj tool with such groovy hats and hypontic vocals once played on a proper sound system!

returning to the kitchen after an over extended jaunt in the bathroom, the sound diggers grant us with another slap happy handful of flavor with their new piece entitled >dont flap just jack<. here at flapjack we do encourage everyone to wash their hands before returning from the bathroom to the decks. with the nasty low down n dirty grooves that are all over this ep, i am not so sure the sound diggers washed up very well, or at all. as we say in the business, when you get dirt in your salad, eh, its just a lil flava.

on sat002 lovework/decisions, black light smoke shows off his pop sensibilities with two sing-a-long summer anthems-in-the-making. lovework is a no-wave-inspired ditty littered with catchy analog synths, an ass-shakin bassline and reverbed claps juxtapozed with a haunting processed vocal from the producer himself that repeats, >you made a mess of my head. now i gotta put it all back together. theres nothing to say, over and over…< which is how this tune will be playing in your head after one listen. on the flip we get a taste of black light smoke in deep house mode with decisions, a lustrous and vibey joint that features a sweeter vocal by suavecito, a new guise of dj/producer and vocalist who is well known by another name. here more analog synths produce wickedly buoyant bass lines and swirling pads that combine with bubbly piano stabs and little vocal sample/edits for what sounds like it could have been a naked music release had the label been operating in 1990.

rainbow arabia have been one kompakts most endearing acts to work with us in years. the husband and wife duo danny and tiffany preston started our year out with the genre-defying full length >boys and diamonds< which went on to become one our most acclaimed releases of recent time - the los angeles times went so far as to proclaim >rainbow arabia are l.a.s new electro heroes< in a recent feature. in honor of the exhaustive touring throughout the us and europe the band continues to trail blaze, we found the need to put out another limited edition 7 inch for the fans and collectors out there. the title song >boys and diamonds< combines the sway of >80s pop< with the raw power of cumbia and ethno-dance mayhem. tiffanys vocals are hauntingly powerful and a testament to the sheer will and work this band has put in over the past year. hardmix are a favorite of the band and we here at kompakt were honored have him tackle the song. what we received is melodic techno bliss - a shapeshifting extravagance that uniquely keeps the essence of the original but with a solid bass kick to keep the dance floor well on momentum

psychemagik return with another freash 12 inch of killer edits, firstly they give paula coles >feelin love< a new dimension by speeding it up around 120 bpm and adding the dirtiest nastiest synth swooshes thatll have even the hardest of dancefloors bursting with sexual tension! on the flip they settle back into balearic blissed out territory with another sunrise killer, their supreme rework of >wake up everybody< by harold melvin. their sparkly live piano solo and tight crispy drums take an already amazing track to epic new heights. just add yacht.

the album also features a song co-written by agnetha fältskog. although she had composed much of her swedish solo output, the song disillusion , for which she wrote the music, is the only song released on an abba album to feature a songwriting contribution from her.

ltd repress !!! following his recent 12inch for blueprint and hot on the heels of another great hotflush title, sigha brings us his own label, our circula sound. emerging from the more experimental side of the dubstep scene in late 2008 with a number of releases on the much lauded hotflush recordings imprint, sighas sound has evolved into a deep, dark, introspective take on techno. he has also worked with great labels like echocord, metalheadz and immerse.

clr is celebrating release number 050 with another impressive remix package. it features two remixes of two different tracks from tommy four sevens recently released debut album >primate< (clrcd010). for this occasion, none other than one of the undisputed founding fathers of detroit techno and minimal techno, robert hood, and the genre-bending dub-techno pioneer sigha have come to the table and have delivered two massive remixes of those highly innovative tracks by the british born, berlin-based producer. also included in the package are >verge<, the original track remixed by sigha, as well as another original track by the name of >g<. to understand why this is a truly memorable release, one has to know that tommy four sevens approach to music is unlike a musician. .

coup de foudre (love at first sight)? thats the best description for rené bourgeois (supdub, lordag, deich) debut ep on shaker plates. another proof that this guy is growing to the top. completed with remixes from dan caster and umami.

further to motor city drum ensembles dj kicks compilation, his exclusive single l.o.v.e. has been reworked by the young detroit prodigy kyle hall, the painter and music creator wolfgang voigt and an excellent remix by smallpeople. kyle has been highly influenced and captivated by the underground deep house sound of detroit. inspired by artists such as theo parrish, mike huckaby, rick wade, 3 chairs, kdj and omar s, who believe their music has a certain feeling of the advant garde and liberation from the so-called rules people place upon dance music. kyle took that principle of their music and applied it to music that he was trying to create. wolfgang voigt is known for his numerous, nearly inexhaustible list of one-off projects and aliases. of these, his best known is arguably >gas< a project that saw the marriage of ambient music and 4/4 techno. his remix of motor citys l.o.v.e shows his minimalistic approach to music he has been famed for worldwide. smallpeople are julius steinhoff & just von ahlefeld aka dionne. smallpeople are focused on a wider range of music and can be diverse- between deep house, detroit techno and some chicago flavours but always within the balance of atmospheric warmth and club suitability bringing yet another perfect addition to this remix package. watch out for more big tunes from smallpeople in the near future

for this release kurbits is happy to announce a new artist for the label – laurentiu suciu – aka. faster. laurentiu has been around on the romanian scene for a couple of years and has earned himself a large number of fans throughout the country. under the name faster, laurentiu has already released a couple of remixes and tracks on various digital labels such as the digital divisions of air drop records and cray1 labworks. whereas his previous releases has been more of straight up house affairs, this release sees laurentiu going for the more minimal and hypnotic shades of dance music. on the a-side we have omego, a track with instant hypnotic qualities. the rolling bass line and the atmospheric pads make the track a perfect choice for those in between moments when you are about to take your set from one direction to another. on the flip we have rost, a rhythmic skeleton based around a simple groove and a little hint of melody. the track might not have the ingredients of a chart buster, but we can assure you that it has all the ingredients of what we call a perfect tool. we sincerely hope youll have as much pleasure with these tracks as we are. well be back soon with new and exciting rhythms. happy mixing!
